Galaxy s4 becoming much slower...

Not sure why... I done a factory reset a couple months ago and things were fine before.

What could slow down a phone, I don't have THAT many apps.

Should I use the free ram process option more often? I want to upgrade the phone soon though. Probably when the 2015 flagships comes out.

Crapsung phones will get slower with time unless you root them and fix the problem, which is DVFS and horridly inefficient frequency scaling.

Free ram boosters are useless. The only way to fix your phone is through root.

A sudden slowdown, especially only a couple months after a factory reset, tends to point to some change like an app developer doing some wonky, your mSD card going bad, etc. If you've ruled out the above, you could do the normal stuff:

- Factory reset, then go into recovery and clear caches a couple times, then try
- Or alternately Odin a fresh stock image of whatever newest version your phone supports. Or considering 5.0 is rolling out, wait until your carrier releases it and then Odin a stock image

Assuming your phone hardware itself isn't dying, it should be a software thing.

Have you turned off the lame ass apps that you probably killerd off a long time ago and forgotten about? Google music was horrible for fucking with my phone. I disabled that and a bunch of other crap that killed battery or slowed it down. No need to replace ROMs at all.

just disable anything google or anything with location services, there is no need for any app to constantly ping a wifi ap to get your location.

I only use gmail but play services is ridiculous with what it wants to constantly do.

I'd say try somethng like disable service app but you can definitely break something if not done right. So don't do it unless you know how to backup your stuff and reboot to recovery/restore.

I've disabled almost all the AT&T/Samsung apps I can on my S4, and run a cache cleaner fairly regularly. The phone has slowed some, but not painfully so. But yeah, the ultimate solution is rooting and either uninstalling the stock apps, or flashing another ROM. FWIW, my next phone will be as close to stock Android as possible.
