Galaxy S3 and Pageplus

I use pageplus' prepaid minutes service. No Data, just voice and occasional text. I barely get service at home and rarely use the phone as it is. I buy the $10 cards/pins.

I don't really need much with a phone, mostly voice and calendar features. Camera is nice occasionally. Some apps might be nice.

I bought a used Droid X2 awhile back to use with it but I hate it. It's so slow and half the stuff barely works and forget using any apps. I don't want to spend much on a new phone and I saw I could get a Samsung Galaxy S3 for a decent price on Ebay and they are listed as 3G.

I got on PP chat and asked if I could use just 3g and no data with the S3. They said yes, so I went and bought one. I get the phone today and I turn it on and it wants a SIM card. I get on PP chat again and give the ESN # to the guy and he says he can't activate it on 3g. Has to be 4g.

Now I'm angry because I paid $127.99 for a phone I can't use and will have to return because PP lied to me.

The cheapest 4g plan is $29.95 a month which I'm sure comes out to $40 with all the taxes and fees (just like my old verizon bill used to be).
It has 1200 minutes, 3000 texts, and 500 MB Data. 1200 minutes would probably last me a year, maybe more. I rarely text so that would go to waste.
How much can you even do with 500 mb of data? Seems like that would go by quickly.

$360 a year if it's truly only $29.95/month vs $40 a year that I pay now.

So what is the latest 3g only phone that I can use on PP that is better than the Droid X2?

interesting. i was doing some digging and it seems i can use this phone with H20 wireless pay as you go plan as long as the phone is unlocked (I checked with H20 wireless directly).
I just need to buy their SIM card and one of their pay as you go pins.

a lot of posts online says the s3 i535 is already unlocked at factory.
i bought a h20 wireless sim card and put it in and get nothing.
bought a pageplus sim card and i get signal and it tries to activate.
talked to H20 support and they seem to think my phone is locked. found many posts about unlocking S3s but not a single one worked (none of the codes provided worked either, not even the one that's supposed to show your imei #).

decided to bite the bullet and go with the pageplus 4g service. going to suck paying $33 a month but this phone is 100000x better than my droid x2 that I can't see going back to it or anything else from it's era. hopefully one day pageplus will allow 4g phones on their pa as you go plan. if h20 can do it don't see why PP can't.
