no way. i've looked at them side by side and the Nexus' screen is worlds better.

sorry i probably spoke too soon, but this was comparing it to my captivate - which is the same res at a smaller screen size.

It absolutely kills my captivate screen, and looked sharper than the qhd screen on the htc vivid. RGB is a big step up from pentile when your dealing with a lower res, at least from what ive seen. Pentile at 720p probably wont matter because its such a high res, but i can say without a doubt that at 800x480 it looks wayyy better.

I have no doubt that the nexus screen is better, but have a screen that is a lower res, but super Amoled Plus has to be at least comparable to super amoled hd.

Factor that in with the fact that many apps wont be ready for 720p res for around a year; in the future its going to be harder to power a 720p screen with an outdated cpu than a 800x480 screen. The SGS2 has a better processor and camera, etc. means that for an extra $300 dollars plus, id prefer the sgs2 over the nexus.

Overall the nexus is a better phone, and if they were the same price, or even a little closer, then id get the nexus. But paying that much more for a phone that isnt superior in many ways seems crazy to me.

FYI - i bought the SGS2 this friday for 50 bucks. (could have paid 0, but did not want to deal with best buy, got it from radio shack)

It's superior in software. Sure the Galaxy S II will get ICS sometime in the near future, who knows how long though as Samsung doesn't have a great track-record when it comes to updates. Plus all Nexus phones have gotten incremental updates rather quickly to add new features or fix bugs. No carrier/Touchwiz bloat and infinitely better dev support.

More than anything, that's what made me want the nexus. For the past 2 years, ive wanted a phone "blessed" by google very badly.

When i bought my captivate, i considered the n1, while i had the captivate, i wished i had the nexus s, even though its basically identical software.

I had my heart set on this phone for so long, but looking back on the state of CM on the captivate now, and checking out how its coming along on the SGS2, i think im ok with not having a pure google phone.

In the future, I cant see waiting more than 1-2 months for a major release to be released without bugs on the GS2, (its already out now, but not ready to be a daily rom)

As long as CM supports the device, its just about as good as being an official google phone. I have no faith in samsung, but have complete faith in devs to support a device as popular as the sgs2.

My main holdup with the Nexus.

It is obvious that the Gnex is a whole new class of phones that will leave the old ones behind BC to AD style. 720p is the new WVGA.

With that said, all current apps target WVGA and some are hardcoded to that resolution. By the time the apps change to 720p across the board more power will be needed (especially for games) and the Gnex will be found lacking compared to second gen 720p phones.

The SGS2 is king of the old generation. Any app or game current made for WVGA can be maximized on the phone. By the time apps are optimized to 720p, you will have another upgrade to use on a 720p phone that like the SGS2 has enough power for its resolution. SGS2 owners switch from the king of one generation to the king of the next.

Let someone else deal with the growing pains....
