Galaxy Geforce GTS 430 Already for Sale

I walked into my local Best Buy to see if they had the nVidia branded cards for sale and they did not.

To my surprise they did have 2 Galaxy Geforce GTS 430 1GB GDDR3 for sale at $134.99.

I'm guessing someone must have just stuck them out there by accident from the back because there were no sticker / price tag identifying them on the shelf.

I certainly wouldn't pay this price for a GTS 430 when I can get a GTS 450 for cheaper but thought it was interesting.

Never owned a Galaxy card before either they seem to have come from out of nowhere.

so does Best Buy just not ever get the memo on when to display new cards? it seems they jump the gun on nearly every video card release. heck they even have the "built by Nvidia" cards on the shelves early.

Yeah I read October 10th is the release date so I'm guessing Monday the 11th is suppose to be the hard launch date.

This 430 looks to be the runt of the litter since its the only Fermi with GDDR3.

I'd assume it's slower than a 9800GT. The GTS 450 is barely faster than a GTS 250 (often they are really the same) and a GTS 240 is around 9600GT level, I can't imagine a GTS 230 jumping up to 9800GT level. But I have no idea, just speculating here. It's important to state that.

Well, sometimes the GTS450 smashes the GTS250, but typically they are fairly even like you say.
I would guess the 430 would be 9600GT type level, but sometimes GTS250 or above level in certain games.
Starcraft 2, for instance, the GTS450 performs 50% faster than a GTS250.
Just Cause is 25~33% better.

CoD MW2 on the other hand, the GTS450 barely equals the 250, and in Crysis it's barely ahead.

GTS430: probably between a 9600GT/240 and 9800GTX+/GTS250, entirely dependent on the game.

The GTS 450 has 192 stream processors (CUDA cores) compared to the 112 in the 8800/9800GT.

It seems like only newer games are programmed to really take advantage of more cores because they are probably targeted for a later generation of cards.

According to wikipedia the Geforce GTS 430 has only 96 SP's which really puts the performance pretty low. 100 less SP's than a GTS 450?

This most definitely should be a sub $100 part since its GF108 and the last of the initial Fermi batch.

Hmm... $134.99 at BB? This'll probably go for $85 on Newegg 🙄

I'm looking at picking up a cheap video card to upgrade the Radeon 4350 in my test bed. I was either looking for a Radeon 5670 for 80 at Newegg, or possibly a Radeon 5770 from the FS/T forum. Few people were selling them for decent prices in there.

Depending on how the GTS 430 performs, might be worth a look.

Apparently there's no love for this card so I'll bump this now reviews have started.

Not entirely sure what the (current) point of it is, with underdeveloped drivers making it less than ideal for HTPC use compared to other similar cards.
Low performance is expected with only 96 less effective shaders vs older cards.

I guess it's not a very well positioned card at the moment, but maybe it will get better when it becomes cheaper and has better drivers (as an HTPC card).
Nice that already there are half height and passive versions though.

According to the HQV results (http://www.anandtech.com/show/3973/nvidias-geforce-gt-430/4), you're better off getting a HD5450 if you care about price or a HD5570 if you care about quality... even if the drivers develop enough, that will take time, by which point Bobcat should be out. Maybe some lower-end Sandy Bridge CPUs may come out next year, too.

Very true @ the time thing.
Hopefully we will get updated HQV results if/when ATI releases their new cards as well.
I think there was something about better 3D support from ATI, so if ATI manage some 3D support for Bluray/etc and NV upgrade their image quality through driver updates, it could set an interesting stage for HTPC choices. (If ATI don't add 3D then NV can take an easy win for 3D users).

I dont really see the niche. CUDA is better with GT240, everything else is better with 5670 and 5570. It cant game, so not 3D gamers, and so the only thing i really see is 3D HTPC which isnt exactly popular.

What a failure of a card. And they want $80 for that? You can get a HD5670 for that much and it will slaughter the GT430 in everything imaginable
