Galaxy 8800GT - Urgent Problem!

Ok, so let me confess - I'm quite a noob.

Just swapped my computer into a new case (Antec 900) with a brand new PSU tonight, and it boots and runs fine thus far.

Ran Driver Cleaner to get rid of the drivers I was using for my 7600GS and installed the drivers off Nvidia.com for my Galaxy 8800GT, linked here:

http://www.ncix.com/products/i...re=Galaxy%20Technology

My question is: my card has two 6-pin power plugs on it but I've only installed one. Is that bad, or should I not be worried?

I booted into WoW immediately, maxed all the settings and was getting dismal ~50FPS it looked like, despite the X2 4200+ and 2GB PC4000 RAM that I have.

I'm more interested in knowing if I should plug in both 6-pin power connectors.

However, I'm going to bench it now and see if things add up. More to follow.

Problem Numero #2:

It happened before the switch I believe, but whenever I try and start up nTune and the performance and stability parts of the Nvidia control panels/programs Windows locks up.

GG?

You should plug-in both 6-pin connectors, since the card comes with the 2.

EDIT: Why wouldn't you do it in the first place...?

You should've uninstalled the NTune before the upgrade.

Uninstall/reinstall it now.

Let it find the new hardware.

Good luck!

I never had nTune before the install.
Had it months ago. Formatted twice since then.

My drivers installed ok.
1. Unistalled old ones
2. Driver Cleaner
3. Reboot
4. Install new ones
5. Reboot

Worked fabulously.

Apparently I was just being a tard. 90-100+ FPS when I'm not bunched in the middle of 40+ people queuing near a battleground.

Uh, I guess I'll install both 6-pin power things tonight, I'll open the shit up again. Well, I didn't think it needed both.

Going to benchmark in 3DMark06 now, then you can tell me if it's close to how it should be.

I get ~11,600 in 3DMark06.

You will probably get between 10,000 - 11,000 with your X24200.

Going to bench now. I'll post results when it's done.

By the way, the cooling on this Antec 900 is incredibe.

26 degrees Celsius. I love it.

If your 8800GT is being reported at 26*, it's either a problem with the program or the temp sensor, not your amazing cooling :p

Nah, core temperature of 26 Degrees.

Anyways, I benched my new setup and got 8075 3DMark06 with everything at stock speeds.

Any bets that with OC'ing RAM, Video Card, and CPU I could hit 10k?

Maybe? =]

I'm going to connect both PCIe Power Connections, and read up on some overclocking before I run the test again.

I have nowhere to start. My motherboard doesn't allow me to modify the multiplier (from what I know) and I've got a pretty minimal cool on what I'm doing. Time to head into research mode and figure out where I've gotta start.

Going to overclock the processor, graphics card, and if I'm able to... the RAM? Haha.

Don't worry about overclocking...

Just start playing some games... and enjoy the new performance!

I'm sure it is about 2x better than your 7600GS anyway.

My goal is to hit 10k on my current hardware.

Here's for hoping.

Going to get Crysis, World in Conflict, Hellgate: London - can't wait =]!
