As most of us know Samsung is refusing to supply Android updates to Galaxy i7500 users. However a guy named Drakaz has kindly created a ROM with Android 2.1 (soon to be 2.2).

I have been following a tutorial off the Android forums to get it up and running, however I have run into an issue. Once of the steps is to turn on debugging mode, then later on you must drop some files on the phone over USB. Problem is when I switch on debug mode I am no longer able to connect via USB. Switching debug mode off doesn't even fix the issue. The only thing which works (that I have found) is a full factory reset.

Has anyone else successfully done this upgrade? If so did you encounter this issue, and how did you get around it?

Thanks!

you need Samsung drivers. Search XDA and you will be all set.

The tutorial included the drivers, and I have them installed. It makes no difference though whether or not they are installed. Once debug mode is enabled the device will no longer mount via USB.

can't you transfer the files to your sd first?

Yes. I did a factory reset of the phone, and copied the files over, then set it to debug mode. Now I have a new problem. When I restart the phone in fastboot and attempt to flash a device called "Android 1.0" appears in my device manager. This is accounted for in the tutorial, but when I attempt to install the driver I get the message "this driver contains no information for your device" (or something similar). Here is the tutorial for reference:

try using android commander. You can flash your recovery and flash ROMs with that. No need to mess with ADB. As long as you have the right drivers for your stock phone, you should be good.

I'll give it a try. I believe the phone needs to be rooted in order to use this application, which I have not done before. Hopefully I will not run into any issues with this.

Of course all of this could be avoided if Samsung would properly support their phones... :(

I didn't do much helping...

Glad it worked out for ya. Also...now that you have a custom recovery, flashing ROMs is a breeze. Boot into recovery, wipe, choose zip, DONE!
