Galactic Civilizations III announced!

Not a lot announced yet other than the new additions of multiplayer (yay!) and galactic resources but given the type of awesome company Stardock is (despite some recent missteps) and how much time I spent in GalCiv II I will be throwing my money at them

I liked GalCiv. It was pretty decent, but not too engrossing. I'll probably take a look at 3 when it hits the $10 or less level.

Oh hell yes! Great game. If they can just do something to make battles more entertaining......I know that's a rarity in 4x.

I played maybe a dozen games of gal civ II, i bought all the expansions. It's the kind of game I only play maybe once every couple years but it's always fun.

Can't wait for the new one! A good blizzardy wintery night kind of game.

To each their own but I spent a lot of time with that game (and in the ship designer)

It was more of a moo2 successor than moo3 ever was. I loved it. The trailer made me shed a tear.

I was so dissapointed with moo3. I heard it got better but I was never able to really get into it

Awesome news!! Can't wait. I can't tell how many hours I have lost to GalCiv 1 & 2.

Just please tell me it is still going to be turn based 4X and not some bastardization into real time.

I am waiting for some more details before I sink my money into a possible bait-and-switch. But if this game is true to its roots, a must buy for me.

I'm a big 4x fan, but I cold never get into galciv for some reason. I'll probably get it when it's on sale whenever or if something tells me it's a little more MoO2 and a little less Civ-like

I never felt like I had enough information to make an informed decision on Galciv1 and 2. I think every decision I made until I got to mid-game was made on a whim.

I like complexity, don't get me wrong, but I think I'd rather it be more simplified so that differing strategies can be clear and precise. For instance, I'm going way back here, but in the game Stronghold(1 and Crusaders), It was complex enough to be interested but not overwhelming. Of course this is just all my opinion. (and a different kind of game). I think Sins of a Solar Empire did a fairly good job at being complex but not going to far with it.

I'm really looking forward to hearing more about it.

From their FAQ page

Q: Turn-based or real time?A: Turn-based

Its always good news when TBS/strategy/space/4x games genre is kept alive, though I have never been able to get addicted to GalCiv like other tbs space games. I hope they at least refine the resource system- harvesting giant 3D cubes, triangles and cylinders suspended in space is too abstract for me.

Yes, the creators of GalCiv confused complexity with depth.

MOO1 & 2 had tons of depth but were quite simple in execution. GalCiv is extremely complex, but shallow. It throws tons of choices at you which have indiscernible effects on the actual gameplay. With all the micromanaging they throw at you the only thing that matters is making a decent fleet using any mishmash of technology and throwing it at the most vulnerable neighbor.

This is exactly what I mean. It needs less options, but bigger implications for the options that you do have. With every choice being game-changing instead of one of a million minor fragments that add up to something you feel like you never had any control of to begin with.

I'm hoping this turns out to not be a clone of itself.
