Gaius Marius was a Novus Homo (New man) of the Equestrian Class.
He was one of the first Plebians to ever hold a senatorial position in Republic Rome.

The Senate did not like him, but everyone one loved him.

First consulman to get a 5 year straight election. A very well aged Army along with a great leadership and care for hte people.

When I think Gaius, I think Marius, and that's the best name ever (Gaius).

Roman names are pretty cool. I've been reading I, Claudius and Claudius the God, lots of great names.

I agree. I really like Roman names.

Yeah, something like BIGGUS DICKUS would rock

anyone else agree? When I have a son I think I will name him Gaius.

Just get it over with, and name the poor kid Unus. I hate people that take Roman names and have no idea what they're naming their kid.

It's like a Chinese guy naming their son "Outhouse", because he likes the way the name sounds.

BTW, it's the masculine form of "Gaia", or Earth

What does it matter? Do you think your parents knew what your name meant when they named you John or Patrick or Ebenezer or whatever your name is? All those names mean something, but we don't care anymore. They're just names.
