Gainward Ti200 G Sample - How should I overclock?

I just got a Gainward Ti200 Golden Sample Jumbo Pick. For those not in the know, it's a card hand-picked by Gainward for its out of the box overclockability, complete with decent HSF/MemHS setup. It also comes with an easy to use tweaker for adjusting core and memory clock. I did the usual: start at stock "Enhanced" speeds (200core/450mem), increment by 5-10mhz and check to see if games glitch out. then I stopped at 240/501. My friend advised heavily against doing this all in the first day. He suggested doing what i did, but to increase the frequencies weekly instead of hourly, as to avoid overclocking damage. He gave a rubberband analogy, you stretch it too hard and fast and POP...
Uh, shouldn't it be able to reach ti500 speeds outta the box? I don't wanna have to wait THAT long

Anyway, anybody got the same card, and if ya do, how did go about this process: with caution or with rage...

I have that exact card, and don't subscribe to the rubber band analogy. Those things are supposed to be tested first anyways. Mine's running at 235/495 no problems, I'm gonna slap a fan right above it to blow cool air on it in from the side of the case, and hopefully go higher. I would crank that puppy up as high as it will go w/o artifacts then back it off a little and peg it right there. Some folx have hit 250/550 no probs. Use NvMax or something similar to tweak it and it'll go higher than the gainward tweak program will let you go.
Hope that helps. oh, and i think 240/500 IS ti500 speed.

It is. You should be able to reach near this speed pretty easily. My MSI GF3 Ti200 goes to 220/500 without any problems (at 230-235 core it starts to crap up... this is the advantage to having a hand picked core with the Gainward cards).

I would have to agree that it shouldn't matter whether you crank it up to the max now are later. But more than likely you won't be able to get *too* much higher. My max for my gainward is 251/510. I put a crystal orb on and a 80 cfm card cooler, it's max is the same with stock cooling but it's still nice to have to keep the wear a tear down on the card. Like he said don't use the gainward software because there are a lot of issues with it. Get NVMax or something similar. Good luck.

Exactly what I thought. I got a low 3dmark2k1 benchmark though. I ran it with the following setup:

-core200/mem450
-Win2k SP2
-ECS K7S5A / Duron 850
-256 Samsung PC2100 DDR
-Gainward Ti200 JumboGS
-40gig Maxtor 5400rpm
-350watt Antec PS
4553

And then after some tweaking...
-core240/mem501
-4699

:Q WHA-WHA-WHA-WHAAT?!
Could it be Win2k slowin it down? the Duron L1/L2/FSB ceiling? Cluttered reg? I mean I hear people getting 8000+ with a ti500. Feedback only from those with this card please.

it's definately the cpu limiting you as mentioned. my rig below (XP 1700+ o/c to 1.628Ghz) with the Gainward GF3 Ti200 probably get's around 8500-8800 on 3dmark2001se @ 1024x768x32 default settings. i was getting 8910 score when i had my gf3 ti200 at 255/570, but lowered it down after i got a lockup.. right now im running at 245/565 stock cooling.. not too shabby imo. i havent ran 3dmark lately.. havent had the time to defrag the drive and such for test mode..

it's sort of the oppisite i was seeing with people getting those visiontek gf2 gts-v from newegg.. i remember people with athlons xp or whatnot getting aroudn 4000-5000 on 3dmark..

what kind of scores (and what video card) did you have before getting the gainward? and what's a jumbo pick anyways? i dont remember that on my box when i got it .. but mines a Golden Sample as well that i got from newegg.. not the latest greatest,, but compared to my old rig consisting of a duron 800 / geforce1 ddr getting 2400 on 3dmark2001 (original), it was a huge improvement..

i use rivatuner for my overclocking.. whenever i applied settings and they stuck, i just bumped it up somemore.. played around with it, and then bump somemore.. didnt wait a week before increasing the speed..

good luck..

Thanks alot guys for all your help. The purchase of this card was the result of much browsing and sacrifice. I had originally ordered the Geforce4 ti4400, since I had accidently popped a capacitor offa my aging Geforce2 GTS. Clearly a superior card, the G4 was just too much $$$ sadly, so I stepped down to something in between a ti500 and the 4400: A GAINWARD OVERCLOCKED TO NEXT WEEK :D.

Anyway, I'm very happy with my card and I highly recommend it to those budget power-mongers like myself.

Oh yeah, Dakata24, to answer your question I really forgot what my old card marked in 3dmark2k1. But lets just say it had the framerate of Myst. :p

Hi friends,

I'm sad because there's no store in my city (may be in my country, cause I've seeked in some big cities too) sells Gainward GeForce3 Ti200 :( (and also GeF3, GeF3 Ti 500 and so on). And a couple store sell Leadtek Winfast but not in stock (buyer has to purchase order first, and do not know exactly when it will be shipped).
In many PC stores, I just found some ASUS V8200, rare Visiontek, most are Powercolor, PNY, MSI, Jaton and Innovision, Inno3D. A lot of them are MX-200, MX-400 and GeF4 MX series.:disgust:
Hercules only Kyro, GeForce MX-200 and MX-400 version, and ELSA Erazor II/III (Riva TNT2), purchase order for Synergy 2000 (Quadro EX)and Synergy III (Quadro MXR). :disgust:
There's no "real" Quadro2 at all (Gloria II , Gloria DCC, Gloria III series) !!
ATI only All in Wonder 128 or Radeon 7500, no Radeon 8500 or FireGL2 or 3!)
I've asked Newegg for buying Online (by secure Credit card), but I got an answer that Newegg sells only "within USA territory". (though there are FedEx branches in my city!).:(

I have the Gainward Golden Sample 128meg Ti200 with the slower (than the 64meg cards) 4ns ram. I started overclocking it the second day I had it. It will run 240/501 without any problems. Any faster for the ram and I get sparklies and any faster for the gpu I get random lockups. Serious Sam 2 is a great test of stability, what with the zillions of polygons the card is drawing during a heavy assault! I do have a case fan right opposite it blowing air across the ram heatsinks and feeding the stock gpu fan/heatsink. I used to have a Radeon 8500 275/275(550) and I think this is a much better card.

MY Gainward 128MB GS only does 225/510 :p I still get around 8500 in 3dmark though, on the rig in my sig. This'll last me a lot longer than my old Radeon LE :)

my gainward ti200 64MB card can run 260/560, I can even run it at 270/500 or 200/580, but not 270/580 (my system crashes around the Lobby scene in 3DMark2k1SE, but NO artifacts what so ever) maybe the design of the card cant handle that high rather then the chips. (It's not the power supply, 550W Enermax)

I'm having a problem with my card though,

on my EPOX 8KHA+, I can do 165Mhz fsb easily with GeForce 2 Pro or Radeon 7500, that's with AGP 4x and AGP Master READ/WRITE Delay = 0. But with the Gainward, It wont even work if I set AGP Master delays to 0, I have to set it to 1, and @ AGP 4X, I can only do 135fsb, 2x I can do 139fsb... WTF? That's with the card NOT overclocked.

Help!

There's obviously a difference w/ the ram between 64meg & 128 meg - the 64meg has faster ram! (wish that was more obvious when buying, heh).
I have been getting 3dmarkSE of around 5500-5900 w/ my old t-bird 1.0ghz and sdram w/ card clocked at 235/495, using 27.42 drivers, no AA, 32bit color, no sound, etc.
thing is, i never use directx for games, ha!
any good references for comparision using Vulpine's GL Mark? Got like 35-40 fps w/ Quincunx, 8 tap aniostropy, 32 bit color, etc.

There's something about the the 128MB version, I had 2 of those cards, and mem speed for both of them can only do 510. And in this post and other forums, people has report them around 510 also.... wierd...

Well the 128MB only has 4ns RAM, so 510 is actually above spec for it :p

I thought both the 64mb and the 128mb version of the gainward gf3 ti200 have 4ns ram... although mine can be clocked up to 240/550 (with a crystal orb and a huge 80mm sunon fan mounted right over it...) Did do 230/530 with stock cooling...

Maybe due to the extra amount of ram, more heat is generated from a greater number of chips, resulting in less o/c'ability overall... might wanna look into ram-specific cooling solutions... the tweakmonster tin-coated copper ramsinks look nice... but they're too expensive for me...

I can do 250/550 and run 3dmark20001se with no problems on mines with stock cooling but I like to leave it at 240/500. I also have the 64mb one with 4.0ns ram.

I just got my Gainward TI200 with 128mb of ram and I can get the memory overclocked, but I get artifacts if I move the core 5mhz.

I can get it to 200/480, but can't move the core. I am using the reg hack then upping the settings in the drivers. I have only had the card a day, and I will work on it over the next couple days.
