Anyone get wierd blue flashes just before the WinXP logo screen pops up.. I also have some instability issues. XP has crashed a few times saying it was the video card that caused the crash..

I think it is a driver thing but find the problem.. I tried the latest 23.11 driver from NVIDIA and the ones supplied on the Gainward CD.. It happens with both..

ANY HELP??

does it say Nv4_disp.dll error?

if so try the 23.12 driver floating around. it has worked fine for my computer so far.

Do you have any WinXP theme progs or tweaking utilties like powerstrip? Those can cuase probs too. How much RAM do you have?

I dont recall the error.. I dont even think XP gave any specifics. It just said video card is probably source of instability....

And no, Im not using any tweaks or anything.. I just installed XP and have barely ran it for a week..

It might just be worth reinstalling, but I would like to avoid that and figure this out..

Thanks for the input so far though guys..

Its funny I had the exact same problem. I bought a new monitor today and set the refresh rate to 85hz and the problem is not there any more. I also have the Gainward, i have the 500 GS model. Like I said since plugging in the new monitor I haven't seen this problem. My old monitor was a proview 17 in and the refresh rate was like 65 for the resoultion i was running at 1024. Also with the stability issues i installed Gainwards whql driver off of the cd first and then installed nvidia's 21.8 driver and i haven't had any more stability issues at all. I think you stability issue is just a driver problem, might just have to find the right one for your card. Im gonna try the new 27 drivers later tonight, wish me luck. Also you might try letting xp or whichever flavor of windows your running install the windows default driver and then install nvidia's driver, i would personally start with the 21.8 and then work my way up. I've ran all the drivers at one time or another you just have to make sure you uninstall the previous driver first.

Hey Thanks a lot.. I might uninstall the current and restart from the WHQL drivers on the CD.. That sounds like a good idea...

Thanks, at least i know it isnt just me, so it isnt a motherboard issue or anything...

I am getting a new monitor next week so hopefully the blue flashes go away with that...

Anyone else have similar probs??

By the way, I installed the WHQL drivers and I still go the WinXP popup saying the drivers are not windows logo tested.. Isnt that what whql drivers are??
