Gainward loses its edge, releases a plain vanilla Radeon 9700 Pro

Maybe they don't like ATI as good as Nvidia and maybe they don't feel the need for doing anything to it. Or maybe they don't overclock well enought to justify putting a better cooling system on it costing them more making them have to raise the price higher than others just a tad.

i thought that ati was supplying all the early cards until production of the others cards was complete?
that was the rumor i heard.so it may be that gainward has yet to market their version.

Maybe Gainward would have liked too but ATi put the smack down...who knows?

I'll bet this is it. --You make the reference design, or no license for you!

And looking at the link, I see they are making only OEM cards.

if they are only making OEM than there is no need for custom cooling

i wonder if MSI and PNY are gonna make Radeon cards now

Its probably just the necessity to come out with a Radeon 9700 ASAP to take advantage of the projected demand. Maybe later on, they will come up with a "Special Edition" version with more bells and whistles but considering that the 9700 just barely came out, I doubt they had the time to make a 'different' card. At least, the color is still Gainward red🙂.
