Gainward GTS 250 vs XFX GTS 250

Well, the GTS is a little better then 4850 and the 4570 is generating too much noise and heat (the stock cooler one)
I thought id give nvidia a try, because i had great problems with my other two ati cards regarding my TV out

Please specify. It's hard to recommend items when most of our members are from USA/Canada :\

Sorry. Im from Croatia, and the 4850 / GTS 250 are in $170 price range. And this is my budget

Both are good cards. If you can find a 4850 with a non-stock cooler then that would be as good too.

What's the 4770 cost in Croatia? If your primary concern is noise, that would be better than either of the cards you've listed.

4770 is lower then GTS 250. But, what i can do is buy GTS , use it for a while and then buy a silent aftermarket cooler. But for now, can i use the nvidia drivers or some other software thet can regulate fan power? like, when im in 2D, the fan can be set to 30%...?

ok, as i see, the GTS 250 is better or equal to 4850 in some tests. Add to ATI driver problems, and nvidia wins this one.

GTX 260 is a good card, but gaming is not my primary thing, so 250 will do just fine for now

I guess you really do have your mind made up on this one. You say your primary concern is noise which is why I suggested 4770 as that card isn't much weaker than 4850 but a lot quieter. And what ATi driver problems are you talking about? If gaming is not your primary thing, I don't see why a 4770 wouldn't work for you.

I've always wondered what "ATI driver problems" people refer to (with single cards, I know there have been some people with XFire driver problems)...I've had more issues with nV drivers although maybe that's due to the initial Vista drivers that I had to use with the 8800GTS 640 (that's barely an excuse though).

I'm pretty certain ATI's current single-GPU operations driver is as close to rock solid as they come. Multi-GPU wise it's a completely different story...

Ok, let me review.

in the last 5 years i have ATI, and YES, i have experienced problems with drivers. On all 4 ATI cards i have TV-out problems. With only one particular driver the TV-out works, and in most cases the driver was pretty old. And with that "working" drivers i had also problems with TVout, adjusting color, contrast, etc...

Then, its well known that in games (like COD) wen you put your brightness level, the level reset it self every once a while. And that's pretty annoying. So, i think i will try Nvidia. 4850 is weaker, by the tests RussianSensation post here, and 4870...well i can buy the one with reference cooler, and i have to prepare myself for 95 degrees Celsius in Load from that card...not to mention the noise. Dont know, maybe i will buy a Coolermaster cooler and exchange one on the card

I'd go with the Gigabyte 1024MB out of those two. I think the XFX is only a 512MB card. (Looks like 512MB is printed on the box in the photo. bottom right).

1GB really makes a difference with the GTS250s.

I have a 19" LCD monitor with 1280x1024 and is possible to hit VRAM limitations with a 512MB specially if High resolution textures are used along with insane levels of Anti Aliasing.
