Gainward GF4 4200 problems

Recently, my GF4200 has been freakin out on me randomly. I am wondering if it is a heat problem, ie if my fan is dying slowly. Happens most often when I am playing CS or TFC or other game (I suppose since that is what I mostly do!). Right in the middle of the game the screen flips out and goes pink lines and bands solid from top to bottom. About 2 seconds later, the system freezes...I have to turn it OFF and then on again. If I just reset, the screen will stay that way. Whatya thinK?

GW has known issues with their ti4200s. See this really long and scary thread here for more information and how to RMA.

I've got 2 of these cards. One has never crashed. The other has crashed a handful of times (never the pink screen, always the checkboard one) over the past 4 months. I'm crossing my fingers it lasts me another 5-6 months.

Yep, gainward had tons of problems with their ti's. I think the problem was with caps leaking, so you might want to check your card and see if there's anything wrong with the caps on it.

Holy crap I'm having the exact same problem with mine 🙁

It only shows up in certain games though, like FF XI right now.

I have the same exact problems here. So far I have found that by using the expertool software from thier site, you can lower the clockspeed on the ram, which solves the problem so far. I know it can't be gpu heat related, since I had those problems and replaced the heatsink/fan with the all copper thermaltake system. The problem still remained. It is possible that they didn't pick out the memory very well for the card, since they run it at 513mhz instead of 500. Setting it at 500 has cleared up my issues so far, I tried it last night when it was crapping out multiple times. Hard to say though, I am almost fed up with the card and the warranty is only a year. IIRC
