Hi All,

Thank you for such a great Web Site.

Anybody out there completed the mod on the Gainward GF3 ti200? I noticed on that card their are the same rows of filters on the bottom left of the card as the article here shows. My VGA out is on the top of the card, but the three sets of filters are on the bottom. Will removing these filters affect the VGA out? I do not have a DVI out.

Thanks for your help :)

Hi xtac, I have the same card and would strongly recommend not screwing with it. The 2D quality of the
board is terrific as is. You may have a 160 dollar door stop after your finished. Or wait until you get some
confirmation on any improvement in quality from others who performed this mod.

I love the 3d performance that Iam getting from the Gainward, but he 2d quality is lacking. My Voodoo3 had MUCh better 2d quality than the Gainward GF3ti200. This is why I am looking for some info about the mod.

If the three sets of capacitors on the back of the card closely match the reference picture, then those are the ones. My kids Geforce 2 Pro 450 followed the reference board mod for a Quadro 2, except the resistors were on the back of the card but easily identified. To be safe, use a 15-20 watt soldering iron to remove the capacitors, practice on an of piece of crap device first, removing and replacing tiny parts. When you are comfortable with the procedure, remove the capacitors on your video card. If worse comes to worse, just replace them exactly as they were before, no harm done. I would give it a shot, it makes a big difference in image quality. My Gainward Geforce 2 Ti 500 wasn't even close to the reference design, but I was able to take an educated guess and removed 3 capacitors, it worked perfectly. The Gainward Pro 450 only had 6 capacitors on front in the reference position, worked great also.

Yeah after reading the anandtech article, i removed the first set of capacitors on the leftmost side.
Not really sure if it improved the quality (maybe slightly) of 2d...

I have the same config as the reference board exept my VGA out is on top of the board not on the bottom. It look like the filters taht are on the bottom of the board are integrated into the circutry that connects the the DVI, but I do not have a DVI. Would removing the filters at the bottom of the board affect the VGA out located at the top of the board?

Thanks for all your help.
