Gainward GeForceFX 5900 Review@HardOCP

nice looking card (almost as nice as the albatron), but can someone explain to me why/how ATi dominates when FSAA and AA is cranked up all the way? is it the arcitecture?

For the AF, I believe ATI is faster because they don't filter as many angles. Whether that makes a difference or not is the subject of epic bbs flame wars.

The inginuity of the R300+ cores, allow for little performance loss with AA and AF. See, it seems that nVidia fails to reach those limits, so it fucused on non-AA/AF performance (since this is the setting benchmarkers use :roll😉. Im really surprised too - FX looks like a vacuum cleaner, costs like one - and yet is weak as hell!

Also, im surprised why the "all powerful" nVidia doesnt use flip-chip construction...i guess its better to put a big-ass HF, than to make flip chip config.

These are flame bait. You must be looking for a fight.

Go TF away.

Just ignore him,we all know ATI are perfect right

Getting back on topic,Gainward are one of the most popular brands for Nvidia cards but always the most expensive(at least in the UK),I would like their prices to come down a little to Leadtek,MSI even ASUS level.Given the choice I would go for Leadtek over Gainward due to price, but it`s funny Leadtek are real slow getting their FX 5900 card out when their lower models are already out.

🙂

Thanks for the link, this does look like an appealing card if I can't bring myself to switch from nvidia to ATI for the better performance at the under-$400 level. I'm happy with my Gainward GF3 but it's no longer quite at the cutting edge 🙂

I've been really happy with Gainward products. I have to wonder if they intend to produce a 256 meg version of the 5900. Anyone hear if this is the case?

Gainward's made some good products, in my experience with em. I just wish they'd change their screwy naming schemes. It's a 5900.. don't call it "The Magic SuperFX Ultra! Mega 1200 XP Orange Duckling" 😛

Thanks for the link. That looks to be a water cooled card. Have you heard if it is water cool only? I can't tell from the press release.
