Gainward Geforce3 Ti200 (Ti/450) Drivers?

I've been having some trouble trying to install drivers for this card. The directions in the little booklet were confusing, and didn't end out with the drivers installed.

The program on the CD doesn't install drivers for this card, it installs some other kind of drivers - which I find odd.

If I uninstall what it installs, and run the new drivers I downloaded from nVidia's site, they installed fine - but when I rebooted, my video card was disabled. When I enabled it, it ran the new hardware wizard again, as if I had never installed the drivers.

If I try to point the new hardware wizard (on a blank install, after uninstalling all previous drivers) to the directory on the CDR where the .inf is at, it is supposed to pop up a list of video cards the driver is for, and get me to choose one. However, the list is blank - there is nothing in the list at all.

Could someone help me get this card up and running? I've tried over the past 4 hours every possible thing I can think of - and I am no newbie to installing video cards/ drivers, though I do not claim to know everything, I do know pretty much how to do it (I've previously had a Voodoo Banshee, a GeForce256, and a Kyro2 card installed on this machine) ... Please, either respond here or email me (email would be best) at leafy@nc.rr.com ... would be very helpful. I'm pretty anxious, as I don't like running in 800x600x16 colors :)

PS, if its necesary: I'm running a P3-800mhz (133mhz fsb) on a VH6-2 motherboard with 384mb RAM, win2k, a sblive value, a ctx pl9 19" monitor, a 12x cdr a zip drive and combined hdd space of 42gigs, with 4 gigs free.

Only use nvidia-supplied drivers. All the others are outdated and suck. :D Anyway, if you can't figure it out, reinstall windows and extract the detonators to some directory and point the hardware wizard to that. Should work.

Problem with that is the detonator drivers don't extract to some directory and then leave it be.. its an all-in-one exe that extracts them then starts nvidia's install program. But even if I try to run that, it finishes up fine, then reboots, and tells me that the video card is disabled, and says the drivers aren't installed. I'm going to go try to re-install SP2 right now, and if that doesn't work... well, I just hope that United Micro tech support calls me back.

If you have an anti-virus program running the nvidia drivers will not install, even though the installer claims to have finished the job. That sounds like it night be your problem.

I never keep an anti-virus program running in the background, I only scan files when I need to. It's really bizarre, and only the second problem I've had with this computer... the first had to do with utterly random reboots, and eventually was attributed to leaky capaciters on the motherboard (hence the VH6-2 mobo, my origional was a VH6)... It also upsets me because I bought this card with christmas money... It won't take drivers for my old card either (I tried to put my old card back in until I could contact tech support) ... meh. I suppose I'll have to re-install windows, but that's a pain. I'm going to talk to the tech support people for a bit at United Micro, I'll post again if I figure something out.

I had that same problem with my Gainward GF3 Ti200 and WinXP. On Win2kPro and Win98SE no problem. What I had to do was clean out the Registry of all the old driver entries and remove all the old
driver files. Which were ATI. It took me a few hours and it finally worked.

Oh joy, I've got to go into regedit.. cause my old card, my Kyro2 - when I put that in and installed drivers for that, it worked fine.

Tech support people want me to send my card back, after finding out that the Kyro2 drivers installed fine. They think that it's either a bad board, or the GF3 is incompatible with my VH6-2.

Anyone heard of a problem with GF3's and VH6-2 mobos?
