Gainward GeForce3 Golden + Tyan Tiger MP S2460 Video Problems?

Hello -

I'm having some problems booting into Windows with the current setup...

Windows 2000
Tyan Tiger MP S2460
Dual XP 1900+ Processors
Gainward GeForce3 Golden Sample Video Card
1 gig Crucial 1024 ECC RAM

The system POST's fine but when it starts getting into Windows the screen turns black. I've already booted with a Banshee card into Windows and everything appears to work fine. I'm now sitting in safe mode after uninstalling the drivers, and upon inspection of Gainward's site i cannot find the latest drivers.

Do the generic nVidia drivers for the GeForce3 work sufficiently? If anyone has any suggestions i'd be more then happy to take note.

THANKS~!

The reference drivers included w/ XP work just fine. They're rock solid, except they don't allow OpenGL. Since many games utilize OpenGL, you'll want to use a Detonator package. I'd recommend 21.83, although some would say 22.50 is a little better. I'm using 23.11 with no issues, however, many have reported NMI errors using these drivers with a wide variety of mainboards (including S2460).

EDIT: I see you are using 2000. Shouldn't be an issue. Just set it to standard VGA adapter, boot up, and install a Detonator package.

> Where can i find the detonator drivers at?

Dude, you've got WAY too much power in that puter of yours if you (the user) do not even know where to get detonator drivers...seriously. But I'll help you anyways, there is this thing called the world wide web (some people call it the internet too) and you can do this thing called "searching" on the big old superhighway (click the "Search" button on your browser menu). Also, another good place to look for the nVidia detonator drivers is on their website, appropiately found at www.nvidia.com 😉

Ok, joking aside, what the heck is a "Sample Video Card"? That could be a suspect piece of hardware if you continue to have issues. I also find that on my S2460 (dual 1900+ XP just like yours) my Asus GF3-Ti500 drivers refuse to install (the setup program would just error out...) so maybe this is a common thing on these AMD dualies, in my case the detonator 23.11 drivers gave me compatibility issues so I use the 21.83 version and have had no issues to date.

and he has all the patches and crap needed for AGP to work properly in Win2K with NVidia cards? There is a registry patch that he can download from AMD's website (www.amd.com), and has he gone to TYAN and downloaded all the latest/proper drivers for the AMD chipset (north and south bridge)? If so then I would say you are out of luck with the GF3 sample card.

Transition- Which Windows 2000 Service Pack is he running?

Chuck

EDIT: Doh!!!🙂 His board doesn't haven't anything VIA (thank god!)🙂 Sorry!

Sorry to be so helpless - but i'm searching AMD's website for the referenced drivers and i can't find squat. Care to be a little more specific on what i should look for?

Thanks
