gainward 6800GT

anyone know where I can get my hands on a gainward 6800GT golden sample vid card? everyone seems to be out od stock at the moment. thanks.....

Hey, I was in the market to get one too but it seems that Gainward has decided to quit the videocard market in North America... I checked yesterday at NCIX.com to see the availability and noticed that all 6800 have been removed from the site.. However, after googling a little, I have been able to have a link for those Gainward Ultra/2400 at NCIX. See this thread :

The forum admins tells them directly that Gainward have quit the video card arena. I have also checked Gainward websites to see some news about this and there is nothing to be found. I think they do not want to spread the word...

If this happens to be true, which I highly anticipate, that would be VERY disapointing since Gainward was one of the most innovative when it comes to video cards. This sadly reminds me the story about Canopus, or Diamond. It seems that there is no place for such innovative companies. Just rush new boards like XFX, eVGA, PNY and gang do. Stick to the reference design and sell quick. Pffft.. Maybe it has something to do with their policies, you know, Gainward is the only one that left that still produce ONLY nvidia card (correct me if I am wrong).

Anyway, if I cannot buy the Ultra/2400 I wanted, I may just end up holding my purchase since it seems that, to me, there are no better alternative.

Wow, if thats true, then wow. Bad news for video card enthusiasts.

I actually have this card, I wonder what that means if they have in fact given up the vid card business. I'm not too worried even if they have left the market, as I'm sure they'll go out of their way to take care of their customers should they/we have any problems. Maybe some other company (yet to be announced, as is this whole thing) bought that division from them? I guess we'll find out soon enough the truth of this matter, but I sure hope it turns out to be false.

I am searching for one 6800 GT (Gainward) and I am unable to find them in stock in north america. On the other hand, those rosbeef 🙂 (UK) have plenty of them in stock. They have all their line, including the ones with those water cooler preattached..

Also, Gainward has annonced their PCI-E solution on their main web page but if you look at their "America" web page, NADA..

This does not bode well for us.

my last 2 cards were gainwards and i loved them. I couldn't wait any longer for them to come out with a 6800, so i got the PNY from CompUsa over the weekend for $199, but i still wish it was a gainward.

that card is kinda cool but 2 slot usage = suck

i honestly feel brand is not much an issue, most of the video cards i have had, have been different brands, i've only ever had 2 built by ATi ATi cards, and one was an Xpert98, since the Xpert and my 9800pro, all my video cards have been different brands, and yet to have a problem with any. But anyhoo, sucks for the Gainward enthusiasts if this stuff is all true. I hope they remain a player.

THer are a bunch on ebay including one ultra model and about 5-7 gt's as of 4:45 central time 9/29/04 just search gainward and click highest price first

The reason brand is an issure here is because gainward actually strayed from the reference design of the 6800gt in this case. Adding another dvi conector like an ultra card and testing the gpus to find the highest quality chips that can over clock the most and using only these high performance chips with the golden sample card. Effectivly the ultra 2400 golden sample is an ultra that runs colder, consumes less power, and is cheaper. Quality cards like this are very rare.
