Gainward 5.1 Sound XPlosion 5.1 Headset

I purchased a pair of these, based on all the positive reviews at newegg. I tried them out, and they suck. I tried two 5.1 sound sources, the realtek chipset built into my MB, and an old Hercules 5.1 sound card I have lying around (C-Media chipset). I tested using Doom 3, Far Cry, and various MP3s. The headsets sound like they have no bass, and the surround effect is weak (if you really concentrate you can tell where the sound is coming from, but it's not natural). Anyone else have a pair of these? Comments? I'm thinking of selling these and getting a pair of these instead.

Thanks,
Ken

lol. well for some reason a good many said a Audigy 2 fixed the bass problem but I dont see how it would

Yea, I'm a little torn... Should I upgrade my sound card on the off chance that that's the issue (throwing more money at these headphones), or just cut my losses and get a decent pair of 2 channel headphones. Before these, I was using some el-cheapo $6.99 walmart headphones, and they sound better than the gainward headphones IMO.

Discoverd by accident that if I only plug the bass connecter half way into the sound card (meaning drop a channel, right?) I get bass. Plugging it in all the way drops bass. Any non-hack way to fix this?

I have a pair and yes to me the bass is a little weak.
I don't suppose I could convince you to try and pull the subwoofer connecter half way out, and see if your bass improves dramatically. I'm curious if I have bad headphones, funky audio hardware, or what. Thanks!

Well, if you're not happy with them, then that's all there is to it. I've never tried anything more than 2 channels in my phones, so I wouldn't have a clue. If you're going to get a "normal" set, then you definitely cannot go wrong with Sennheiser. I have two of theirs: HD-500 and HD-280. Both are awsome (about $100 a set). Haven't tried that Sennheiser pair you have linked, but my bet is they'll be worth the purchase.

Just tried it and noticed no difference between them all the way in and half way in
Thanks for trying. I tried it with my onboard sound, and got no bass with it in all the way in, half way in, or not in at all. This is using the realtek chipset. Using the CMedia based sound card, I get bass, but only with the connector half way in. Maybe the people on newegg know what they're talking about when they say get an audigy. Still, rather than throw money at solutions that *might* work, I'm tempted to just switch headphones.
