Gainfully employed once again!!!

...after only 3 weeks out of a job! Finished my contract with my old job in New Orleans 3 weeks ago, moved to NYC 2 weeks ago. I got the callback to come in on Monday for my first day with a small IT consulting firm in Manhattan. I can't believe it, it was my first interview here! I took the job because it's a very relaxed firm with interesting clients, and the pay is quite a bit better than what other positions I applied for offerred.

Sorry for the brag, I'm just really excited (and quite nervous) about starting my first new job out of college!

Wish me luck!
😀😀😀

That's great news... I'll be job hunting next week, but probably not in the IT field! Shouldn't be too tough to find something. I'll probably be posting a "I got a job!" thread in a couple weeks. 😛 (actually I have one now, I just want a full time one)

How do you propose going into software marketing? Do you need an IT background?

Not sure, but he keeps pushing this new ICQ/MSN/IM App 😉

I would think that for software marketing a degree in marketing is probably more important than any formal IT education.

Cost of living is much higher here, of course. I couldn't even begin to compare...I was really lucky in NO, lived with a very well-off friend. Now, I'm staying with my gf in Astoria, Queens. We're planning to move to Manhattan in the next couple of months. We'll see how that works out, but I'm fairly confident our combined salaries are enough to live comfortably in a 1 bedroom in a reasonable neighborhood (anything's better than the studio we share now 😉). I'd rather not comment on what my salary is, but as I said, it's generous for a straight-out-of-college job.

Thanks to all the well-wishers. 😀

I hope they didn't take advantage of the fact that you are an out of towner, and under pay you the going rate for working in NYC.

Can you give a range of what you are making??

I might be getting a job up north and am trying to see what people are making. I will be getting out of school in May with a BS in Information Systems and Business MNGT.
