Been reading, and reading. Want to get rid of Trillian Pro that I run now. I am looking at GAIM or Miranda to run on my xp box. From what I've been reading , they both do the same thing? No real differences between either program. Am I correct here, and will it come down to personal preferance?

Pretty much, yes.

They both support all the major protocols and their interfaces are both fairly minimal. I don't know much about GAIM but Miranda is my IM of choice because of the small footprint it uses and the numerous plugins available. I don't use IM very often, and I don't need a client with specific features.

I really like how GAIM added the away msg under the each person's sn. I was really upset that I could, previously, only find that feature in Trillian Pro. Definately spend a couple days playing with both. Oh, and the programs YOU use should _ALWAYS_ come down to personal preferences!

If only GAIM had better support for file transfers. Not being able to connect and directly link files (only photos) and not being able to send entire directories is the only reason I'm still using Aim Ad Hack.
