Yeah, I don't understand how they aren't allowed to use the word Gaim. Can't they just make up a different acronym for Gaim that doesn't involve AOL for the "A"? Screw AOL.

It's the acronym that AOL is contesting, not what it stands for. But yeah, that sounds pretty good. General and all purpose are sort of redundant though, don't you think?

AIM is a trademark and GAIM is too close to be confusing for people. Sort of like if you were to start a car company called Shevy and produce a car called an Illuminar, no doubt people would get confused when talking about them and Chevrolet would likely be within their rights to sue you.

Meh. I suppose they could always come up with their own product that doesn't mimick someone else and leverage their resources and then give it a unique name. Just an idea.
