it's so hard to recognize the pattern in the equation I'm integrating, in order to use Substitution or Parts.


are there any tips/shortcuts when you're trying to recognize the pattern?

pattern for substitution?
or pattern for integration by parts (u*dv substitutions)

Experience is the best teacher
practice practice practice. I assigned dozens of those problems to my class. Other integration types, such as partial fraction decomposition - I assigned 3 or 4 of them.
I had the same kids in pre-calc... I know what they can do.
