Installed the powertoys for XP a while back, and it replaces to good old task switcher with some horrendous devil spawn crap that makes alt-tabbing utterly useless.

Does anyone know how to remove this vile $hit before it drives me completely insane?

MSFT's unified process for software installation, os configuration, hardware installation, and trouble-shooting:

Backup data.

Format.

Re-install, os and all applications. Pray it works.

HA! Good one! Did anyone check Microsoft's web site? I personally don't like XP because they made it too userfriendly so I haven't installed or worked with it at all. I would start at their site.

Problem is the "Improved" task switcher is already removed, but this crap remains.

are you talking about the task switcher the the thumbnail preview of the screen you are tabbing to? I have that installed and don't find it half-bad. It works good when I have multiple IE windows open so I can tell what site is open in each window.

I still have Powertoys installed but I simply disabled the "improved task switcher" it was a while ago but I believe you can
prevent it from loading by...err..I actually forget. Even reinstalling Powertoys doesn't revive it. Damn.

I thought it might of been in the Startup items, or in services. Hmm..

HexVector, you're my hero! :)

Like I said, I've already removed it from the Powertoys setup, but the cursed thing remained.

But when I read your post I took a peak in the registry, and lo and behold, it was right there in the startup, called "CoolSwitch" or something like that.
Removed that key, and it's gone!

Whoever referred to this as "Cool" should be shot in the knees.

Thanks a bunch peeps.

anyone got a screenshot of this "improved" alt-tab ? sounds like its definately not for me because I am a die hard alt tab user to switch between tasks, and change is a bad thing!!

hrm.. thats way too big! and i bet its slow as hell too.. if they had something like that, but much smaller thumbnail and was as responsive and quick as the regular alt-tab, I would probably find it useful
