Apparently there's not much that can be done. Guy I talked to said to cut away branches that were infected but it's basically the whole tree. Does this go away with time or should I just cut the tree down?

I lost a plum tree to it a couple years back. Not a damn thing you can do. If you catch it really early aggressive trimming might work, but the problem is that we don't see it until it's obvious, and then it's too late.

Our extension office instructed me to cut the tree down, and either burn it thoroughly or cut the branches up and bag them in plastic. We opted for cremation.
