GAH!! the darkside is annoying!

So, I have a brand new system I'm putting together. Brand spanking new q6600, dfi lt x38-t2r mobo, and 4GB GSkill DDR2 1000 memory.

First off. The computer DOES NOT WANT TO TURN OFF!!!

No matter what I do, the computer goes through the shut down process and BAMM turns right back on. I am getting completely annoyed with having to hit the switch on the back of my power supply to actually turn the thing off.

Second, the CD that came with my motherboard to install the chipset drivers errors out when I try to run the setup program off the CD. Great.

Third, this is more my annoyance factor because I guess I need a bigger case but the cooling I bought for my new CPU is too effing large!! It barely fits in the case and if I have to make adjustments I have to unscrew everything and pull the whole thing out! I know I know, buy a bigger case and I probably will but for now, argh!

I know how to fix the second I have, just download the drivers from the internet and I will. So, anyone have any idea on how to fix the first issue?

Oh yah,I have had a few other minor issues to which I solved, mainly because letting the bios chose "auto" options doesn't seem to be a good idea for Intel this time around.

That sucks.

I understand about the large heatsinks issue too, I knew the Scythe Ninja I was getting was going to be huge so I researched specifically to see what it would fit into and whatnot. Thankfully the P182 is pretty large, but even then the Ninja gets pretty close to the side panel.

Anyway, to answer your question, my old rig had the same issue where it refused to power down. I rarely shut it down anyway but it was annoying. Still, I lived with it for a good year. Not a good idea as it slowly degraded. In my case, the PSU was dying (after 3-4 years) and it was extremely hot and just a lot of bad stuff. I replaced it with a new PSU and all of a sudden everything was normal, even problems I thought were "Windows quirks" went away. So my suggestion is to try a different PSU and see if that helps you.

Good luck.

I have here 4 brand new in the box PSU's. A thermaltake tough power 850w, an Antec 850w quatro, and a couple cooler master 850w real power pro's. All them do the same thing. I doubt it is the power supply. Everything in my case is brand spanking new 🙁

And all the wake on options are off as well.

I am pretty sure in cases where it will not turn off its the motherboard messing up somewhere. I would RMA the mobo.

Yah, that's what I was thinking which is why I'm posting this under the mobo section and was hoping to see if anyone else owns a dfi x38 board and had similar problems.

haven't heard anything like this about these boards. An RMA will most likely fix your problem. You just got the luck of the draw. Nothing to do with Intel 🙂

well I just bought this used off the for sale forums and I don't have the original receipt. I'm trying to contact the person that sold me the board and they aren't responding 🙁 Thinking my board is bad because anytime I have RAID turned on, the system won't post all the time and even when it does post after turning on raid, it will always BSOD on entering Windows.

Hopefully I can get DFI to work with me here otherwise I'm screwed out of the $200 I paid for this board 🙁
