People who don't know what they're doing should NOT build machines

Example of actual conversation I had 2 minutes ago:
Me: you don't seem to have a heatsink.
Him: What heatsink?
Me: The heatsink you have to put on the processor
Him: What's it do?
Me: It keeps the processor from overheating and dying
Him: Don't worry, the room will be air conditioned, it shouldn't get too hot in there.

He is currently still unpacking parts from boxes...I'm REALLY tempted to just let him build the machine and learn the hard way why ac isn't gonna cut it.

Stress to him that he needs a heatsink and fan, as well as at least one case fan. Flat out tell him that he will ruin his machine if he doesn't take your advice. If he still doesn't listen, let him burn his stuff up.

Actually, he's partly correct my man. Intel P3's can actually be under clocked cool enough to run without an HSF. Speaking of HSF, boggle this guy some more with acronyms such as HSF. Will drive him insane! Just keep repeating it like it's a real word that any idiot should know. Classic!

Maybe without a fan, but without a heatsink? No way.

p4 2.53 ain't gonna last long w/o an hsf. I took away the cpu from him and I just flat out told him I wasn't gonna give it back until he stops being a cheapskate and buys an hsf.

You are a good friend... Just like the friend who takes away the keys from someone who is too drunk to drive.

That's just too funny. Too tired to think of something witty to say tho.

I'd let him burn it up. Experience is the best teacher, because if he doesnt learn this time, he'll do it next time..

I GOT IT!

Have him hold his finger on the CPU core while he turns it on!! He'll learn in about 3 seconds why you need a heat sink. :)

well, I don't really care if he thinks I'm an a$$hole...but I figure one day, one of his techie friends whose opinions he actually listens too will laugh at him good.

Classic :)...I think you did the right thing....if he does a search on the web he will find that you are 100% correct and will be able to get some resources on helping him build!
