I hate people parking on the street. Got into a fender bender this morning partially becaue of that reason. Guy can't move his damn car into the driveway despite the room there. Instead he has it parked in the street. So when I left earlier this morning I hit it. Why? Well it was earlier than normal and I was driving directly into the sun and there was still dew on my right side of the windshield so I had a difficult time seeing out the right side of my windshield.

So I was driving in the middle of the lane on purpose. But the lanes in our neighborhood aren't wide. So when I was trying to avoid a car on the left side, I hit this parked car on the right side I couldn't see that was parked in the street. Yes, mostly my fault, but damn I'm a bit pissed.

It's not mostly your fault, it's completely your fault. You were driving a car where you couldn't see clearly out of the windshield.

That sucks

I got a guy on my street that must be retarded. It's a steep hill and the road is pretty narrow - doesnt even have enough room for them to paint double yellow lines - no divider painted at all. but its a very well driven road.

So this dumbass decides its a good idea to park his minivan on the street frequently, despite his 4 car capacity driveway being empty. so now all these cars going up and down have to stop to let each other pass around this arse holes minivan.

he's also the same dumbass who sometimes puts a sign out on his curb yelling at people to slow down.

It appears his way of slowing down traffic is working. I'm one of those guys in the summer who hollers at people to slow down. I have kids playing in the front yard sometimes and from time to time, a ball might make its way into the street. The limit on my street is 25 mph, but most people do 35-40. The street isn't wide enough for that speed and most of the time, its the people with the rusty cars or fart can mufflers gunning their shitmobile around.

Ok, understood, though this guy has no kids, virtually has no front yard because of the steep slope makes it pretty hard to do anything, and he has a fence along the street.

We have neighbors who park on the street expressly to slow people down.

Yes your fault, but I agree that street parking is obnoxious. I wouldn't live somewhere with constant street parking.

so, you hit a stationary object that is legally placed on the street and it is not 100% your fault?

That sucks. I have to park my car on the street and every morning when I leave for work there is usually dew on the windshield. If the sun hits just right you can go from fine visibility to no visibility in seconds. Right now because of the time change it is still dark when I leave for work so I don't have to worry about the sun until I am almost at work. Not looking forward to around May-June when there will be more sun-light when I go to work.

Not my fault if I can prove he was parked too far out into the road which he was.

Wrong. He could've been "parked" in the road and it would still be your fault.

That was a non-moving object that you hit. It's your fault, per the law.

Edit: holy timewarp. This is a quote of humble, 2 posts below.

I find your dislike of street parking bizarre. Everywhere I've ever lived most people park in the street.

Weird. Never occurred to me anyone would be bothered.

Also, sunglasses wouldn't have helped. It was when I moved a tiny bit to avoid the car on the left that I got blinded by light refraction from the dew on the right side of my windshield and couldn't see out of it anymore.

Tiny road, with cars parked on both sides of the street which then allows a single car to narrowly pass between them. I was avoiding the car I could see and nudged the car I couldn't.

Street parking is a necessary evil in many places, but it's irritating when it isn't necessary.

nope, if he's parked too far out in the street to impede the flow of traffic it would be his fault for constraining traffic and setting up a potentially dangerous scenario.

Then call the cops and have his car ticketed and towed. Your insurance company is still going to find you at more than 50% at fault.
