Gadgets killed in Windows 8?

I just installed Windows 8 Enterprise and i am so disappointed.

I have a set of gadgets without i can't imagine my desktop. After i couldn't find them i opened Firefox and saw that Microsoft has killed the Gadgets in Windows 8. WTF? Why the hell would they destroy one huge Windows feature?

Okay, i said to myself, Microsoft are bunch of retards and let's see what Yahoo has to offer with their Widgets. To my huge surprise Yahoo killed Widgets on 11-th of April 2012.

Now the big question is: WHAT THE PHUCK!!!
What is going on? Why in God's name am i unable to use ANY kind of Windows Gadget?
I mean, why is someone screwing up things like these?

Is there any replacement for the Windows Gadgets and Yahoo Widgets that MIGHT still work?

Stardock has said they are working on having Metro apps to run on the desktop. That's probably the closest you're going to get, assuming there's an app that can substitute for what you want.

If it were me, I'd look into hacking the bits in from Win7. Don't know if it's doable, but it might not be too bad.

Sounds like just another thread 😛

Anyway, try using firefox addons, they are great.

The main downside is that if you are not at the browser, you would have to switch to it to be able to see them.

One of the important PROS is that by doing this you will ease your later transfer to linux, which has firefox working great.

Dude i have no idea what are you talking about... ???

BTW, Microsoft considers the Gadgets security risk even on Vista and Win 7 and provides a fix to disable them.

😎

But... if you run some clean gadgets from a trusted source, gadgets that are proven to be OK, why bother with a security paranoia spread by some "it's not a bug it's caused by a virus know it all" folks?

Opera has widgets that'll go on the desktop. I don't know what's available, but I used a weather one several months ago.

Guys, i don't give a craB about no web browser addons 😀
I enabled the gadgets to work on Windows 8 and that's more than enough for me 😀

Did you try yourselves with the link i sent you?

I've downloaded and burned to CD all the gadgets I use in case I have to reinstall Win7 in the future. The gadgets are going to get harder to find as time goes on.

Gadgets are one of the things that I really like about Win7 (and Vista).

FF addons won't appear on the Windows desktop so how is that an equivalent substitute?

It is not an equivalent substitute, it is just a substitute that works,

I have stopped using windows gadgets along time ago, and rely only on firefox for my gadgets/add-ons needs, and since i have firefox working all the time, it work out fine.

Instead of minimizing all applications to see the gadgets on the desktop, you can bring firefox to the front to view the add-ons, .. this works for me.
