Gigabyte Response:
For the locked multiplier issue, to be honest, it is the Award BIOS limitation for our Z68 boards to Overclock with IVB K series CPU. It will be locked at 39.

So much for their Hybrid EFI Award Bios - Patend Pending!
What a shame I love the Gigabyte Z68XP UD4 (B3)
Anyone know where this is Heading - BIOS FIX likely or not?

Has anyone here OC'd an IB(K) with an ASUS P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 or ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 without issues?

I checked with Gigabyte Site and saw no resent Bios updates that would indicate that they Fixed the Ivy Bridge (K) overclocking issue on their Series 6 Mainboards nor can I find any Info or FAQ discussing the issue.

Has anyone here attempted to OC an IB(K) with their Gigabyte Series 6 MB using the latest BIOS Posted?

Not that it's a great importance as SB seems to have it all over IB for Overclocking but just the same GA-Z68 owners should at least be able to get what they can out of IB(K) processors.

The main reason I'm inquiring is that I can get a GA-Z68XP UDP4 (B3) for a descent price and debating if I should put out for a Z77 which will cost more and have less features. I will probably get a SB(K) Processor but getting the feeling their prices will be higher then the IB(K) counter parts.

I may pass on that Ga-Z68XP UDP4(B3) and get the ASUS Z68V Pro Gen3 which probably stands a better chance of OC's the IB(K) if I do get one.

On Gigabyte's site, there is a BIOS revision labeled "U1g." This is not an Award BIOS - it is an AMI UEFI that replaces the Award BIOS. It replaces Hybrid EFI with true UEFI. It should fix issus with Ivy Bridge multipliers. Some of the UEFI updates Gigabyte have published, however, haven't been great. The one posted for my board (GA-Z68A-D3-B3) disables my ability to use DVID entirely - that is an issue because there is no static VCore option in the UEFI menu. The DVID option is there, but I can't change it.

Check Gigabyte's website. They are offering full UEFI for most Z68 motherboards. Prior to that update, I was unable to overclock my I5-3570k at all on my Z68XP-UD3. After installing the UEFI (follow all the proper steps, clear CMOS and everything), I was able to get my processor to overclock properly.

I elected to buy the ASUS P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 and will probably go for a SB(K) processor - Thank you for your input ;o)

Hey slackingoff7

If I understood what you're saying then that's great news! I have the Ga-z68xp ud4 rev 1.0 motherboard and I see the same BIOS update (U1g(UEFI BIOS)). With this update u were able to overclock your i5 ivy bridge? Can you give screenshot? WHat's your experience? Thanks
