I just got my system built and every thing worked great, posted on first try and then installed windows everything went perfect.

After i got to desktop screen i couldnt get on internet so in installed motherboard CD drivers.

After that internet worked and i immediately started updating windows. Then i updated to windows explorer 7 and it continued updating.

Then it stated that all updates could not be installed and asked for restart. So i restarted and internet stoped working. When i click Explorer its a views normal except where yahoo page would normally be its just white.

Also when this window is up it freezes and wont let me close the explorer window but everything else works fine such as going into the start menue ect its just that explorer window will stay there.

I tried to update driver and it states new driver under system, hardware, device manager, network adapter.

Also i have an Netgear PCI ethernet card so i installed that and disabled onboard LAN driver and tried to install netgear drivers but still no go.

Under under system, hardware, device manager, network adapter it shows the netgear card and says its working properly but the internet wont work.

Any advice. Do i got to reinstall windows???

System in sig along with

EVGA 8800GS

THANKS

I would attempt to do a system restore to just prior to running windows update. Once back to that point update one item at a time so that you can determine what update is causing the problem.

If you can't figure out what caused the problem and back out of it, then yes I would reinstall windows. Seeing as it was a fresh install to begin with, you are only out a bit of time at this point and although frustrating it isn't catastrophic.

After reinstalling windows, the first thing to install are your motherboard drivers. As a last resort use the cd that came with your motherboard. Preferably you have internet access and can download whatever the latest drivers are from the manufacturer and just toss the cd that came with your board into the corner.

Seeing as it appears you started having problems after running windows update, I would step through the updates one at a time (a pita i know) so that if you do have a problem you can at least determine what update it was that caused the problem and ask again if anyone has a work around / solution to that problem.

One thing before you reinstall... check to see if your ram is set at the proper voltage in the bios... improperly volted ram can cause weird problems.

Ive heard of problems with the internet on this board. Do you think it would be wise to just use my netgear from the start instead of using onboard LAN?

Do i have to put the disk in to reinstall windows cuz now i got to where i originally installed the operating system on. It shows Partition 1 with my whole hdd space 320gb with 8mb unpartitioned. I tried to see if it would reinstall over and the erase the old operating system by this by selecting partition 1 but it says that i shouldnt do this. Do i delete both partition 1 and 8mb unpartitioned. Dont know what to do! I also said Fresh install of xp or Repair? i selected Fresh but dont know if thats what im supposed to do.

I don't think it will make a difference just make sure you use the latest drivers from gigacrap for the onboard lan. Also you might want to check their site and see if there are any bios updates available for your board as a flaky bios can cause some fun too. It sounds more like something was corrupted within the operating system while it was updating than a problem with your onboard lan ports but you will have to do the troublshooting to find out.

It is common for there to be a small amount of "left over" space on a hard drive. once you delete the original partition you won't have to delete the unpartitioned space because then it will all be unpartitioned... :p best bet is to delete the partition completely and go from there with a fresh install.

I wasnt sure if that was what i have to do so where is stays Partition1 delete that and then it will go back to the whole HDD being unpartitioned? Then setup windows like normal?

I just used my netgear card instead of onboard LAN and everything is working perfectly so far. Im just not going to deal with the driver for the onboard LAN at all too much of a pain
