a friend has a new machine based on the GA-P35-DS3L and a 6750 w/ 2GB of ddr-800 (g.skill - 1.8V). running a ide rom and sata hdd. anything special about setting this up to install xp on? any certain configs?

i hate to say this but i have never installed a fresh os on a sata hdd as i have and will be running scsi for a long time, so your info will be greatly appreciated.

i am assuming just make the rom the boot device, make sure the sata ports are set to native eide mode, put hdd in sata port 0 and the rom as master on the ide - am i missing anything?

thanks in advance,
bob

Optical can be Slave, Master, or Cable Select. Set IDE optical as 1st boot and HDD as 2nd boot in BIOS. Save BIOS and restart with CD/DVD in ROM drive. Be sure to zero fill a used HDD before you install windows. I normally have a blank primary active partition on the boot HDD. Vista requires NTFS. You can use FAT32 or NTFS with WXP. There is no need to hit F6 to install special drivers.
