GA-N650SLI-DS4 bootup problems

Hello,

Just got my new parts and I'm having some problems on bootup. Basically the PC (no OS installed yet) will boot up fine the first few times but then it will die on boot at the initial BIOS screen. It basically just stops and will not respond to keyboard. Once it reaches this point it will always refuse to boot. I've made no changes to the default bios, have loaded fail safe, removed all peripherals, etc...

At first I thought this was a bad motherboard and I RMA'd the first version but I'm getting the same thing now. RMA'd the ram, video, PS and CPU and still the same thing. Never had this problem before on any of my PC builds and I'm a bit of a loss.

I'm going to upgrade to the latest BIOS just in case this helps.

alaricljs,

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that I thought about heat issues. The MB did not report high temps and when I was able to get into it I did enable the temp warning at a pretty low temp. All the fans are blowing and the side/top of the case are off. Its been pretty cool around here so ambient is not a problem. I even went out and got a thermal probe to attach to a thermal monitor and left the thing running over night, temps are fine (running an Ultra 120 extreme which I've re-mounted several times).

Ok after reading some reviews I think I may not have screwed down the 120 enough. I basically just tighten the screws down as much as I could by hand. Anyone know if this is OK or should I have used a screw driver? And if so how far so I go?

I did get an e-mail back from Thermalright and they indicated that I should use a screw driver to tighten this down. I'm going to pull this off, re-apply the TIM and re-seat it using a screw driver. Hopefully this helps.

Did you resolve the problem?

I see that you are running 400*8 on DS4, what are your Bios setttings?
(timmings, voltages)

Thanx

I meant to come in here and update this post. After alot of testing (and the replacing of a bad PS) the problem came down to the Wintec Ampo not working properly on this motherboard in dual channel mode. My bootup problems went away if I ran just one stick or two sticks in non-dual channel mode.

After viewing some reviews of this mobo and speaking with Gigabyte techs I ordered 4GB of G.Skill 2GBHK memory, should get it tomorrow.

Well this problem is not the memory, but the motherboard. I've tried three different types (Wintec, G.SKill and Corsair) on two different mobos and I have the same problem (not stable in dual channel mode works fine in 64bit mode). Tried that ram in other mobo's and they work fine. Just noticed that an F7 bios was released going to see if this fixes my issues tonight.
