Hi Guys,
Wondering if anyone can assist me with a memory issue. I have a Gigabyte K8vnxp mobo. I built the system myself and have had no issues for around six months. A couple of weeks ago, windows began to randomly lock up. I have checked all of my cards (vid and sound) and have installed all the latest drivers. I ran two memory test programs and they both locked up during testing.
Here is my set up:
K8vnxp mobo
Athlon 64 3200
(2) Crucial 512mb DDR 400 memory
ati radeon 9600xt
creative audigy
4x dvd/rw, 48x dvd/rom
(2) SATA 37 gig raptors, raid 0
(1) western digital 80gig HD
enermax 470w ps
I think I have isolated the problem to DIMM slot 2. I have installed a single stick of memory in slot 1 and my computer boots fine, no lockups.
When I try to add the second stick to DIMM slot 2, the machine will not boot.
I have also swapped out both mem sticks into slot 1, and the machine boots fine, so I know that both sticks are good.
Anyone run into this before? I've read that some mobo's can be touchy about memory installation, but my machine has run fine for several months.
Can a DIMM slot just fry like that? This sucks because I'm reduced to 512 mem, since its the middle slot which is causing the problem.
