I don't know if you have left on tour yet, but in case you're picking up these messages: F7 BIOS update fixed all my grapics problems! I have been playing Half-Life for about one and a half hours with no shut-downs or other glitches. I don't know what Gigabyte fixed, but things are now good.

Well, I got a "not reported" temp message after a cold boot, then the correct readings after a warm boot... Strange... I really don't see what is so hard about fixing this temp issue. I mean, it's not so easy that the BIOS dept could just output a value from the CPU, they do have to implement an algorithm for whatever value comes from the thermistor, but still... This is something an undergrad could do easily. My guess is that there are variations in the AMD processors that Gigabyte is not aware of, and that they just didn't get off their ass to find out what they were.
 
so now... what is the final deciscion about the f7 bios??...is it worth updating it or not?
i might just update mine but i kinda wanna make sure that it works properly...
 
has any new bios fixed these ram incompatibility issues?

i contacted gigabyte tech support. first they gave me an unlabled, excel chart and said that i couldn't run at 200 mhz with any ram, according to the tech support guy anyway. for all i know the chart could be talking about speeds of some offshore equipment, it didnt have any labels on it. i told them that it was absolute BS. then they said "yeah, ok we were jerkin ur chain. here's 2 brands of ram that are guaranteed to work." they give me crucial, and kingston websites. i've seen lots of complaints about kingston compatibility, so i know they are still messin with me. i told them that having only two brands work with the board is absolutely ridiculous, which it is. anyway, help is appreciated 🙂
 
I really doubt that a BIOS update would fix the memory incompatibility issues. And tech support is pretty damn useless, it seems that they don't know any more about the situations than we do. Yes, the only guarantee that you will get in terms of memory is from crucial, as they have a list of modules that work with this particular board. Of course there are other brands that work, but it's not 100% clear as to which ones they are. I have heard sucess stories w/ OCZ, but their website does not have a compatibility list for the K8NSNXP-939.
 
The F7 BIOS update fixed some persistent problems I was having with 3D graphics, but my memory has always run at 200MHz. The particular Kingston RAM I'm using is recommended by Kingston and seems to work fine.

well, actually, i think it does help...when i got my first one back from RA, my computer would blue screen on boot-up...had to remove one stick of RAM, boot into windows and update the BIOS...then it worked fine again!

BTW, im back!!! 😀
 
welcome back pantner! So you think the BIOS update does help, hmm? I've heard some rumors that this new stability is achieved by limiting the memory bandwith. Do you guys see much of a difference? I didn't really, possibly like 50 or so points in Sandra... There might be something to that theory though. I just wish there was some technical documentation do go along with the BIOS versions. Really, I hate not knowing what I'm loading onto my board. And as far as the temp issue goes - well, I doubt any of it is accurate at all, I think the BIOS dept just kept scaling it until they could get readouts in the 35-40C range. I've considered putting a physical temp probe on the processor, but with all those pins, there's no way it could be placed under the processor. So that leaves in between the heatsink and the heatspreader (which is probably not a very good idea), and on the heatsink between the fins (which is probably not too accurate.)

Btw, do you guys get some sort of high pitched noise on your board when the CPU is put at full load (and hence full power?) Is that coming from the DPS or what? Some sort of MOSFET or capacitor maybe?

Yeah, I tried that out, but the surround sound in cs source was a bit messed up for me. Positioning seemed better, but sounds that were not right next to me came out as muffled. I'm using the zalman 5.1 headphones, so it's very likely that the limitation is with that, and not the drivers. I would not be surprised if the drivers worked great with speakers, as one of the driver notes is that they fixed audio issues with some games. Anyway, that's the only thing i really noticed, music playback was the same as the previous audio drivers.

my pc spec are



amd 64 3500+
K8NSNXP-939
CORSAIR TwinX 512meg x 2 XMS3200XL 400mhz runing at 333
THERMALTAKE Modern Life Style XaserV Series-Damier V5000A 400 psu
120 gig hdd
ati 9600pro atm

and i have updated everything ,bois f8 ,sound card drivers, video drivers, winxp sp2

but the memory problem is still there so i change it to 166 did prime95 and no errors

last few days i tryed everything so it ust be a m/b problem

 
well....its very complicated...

the REAL problem is the A64 Mem controllers...the max that they officially can run at is 333Mhz, NOT 400...however, most of the time they can.

for some reason, on some motherboards, they have more problems then others, not sure exactly why...

however, i've found that BIOS flashes do help some...

when i recieved my board back from RA the first time, i plugged eveything in, etc and booted up...BSOD, and i couldn't understand why...

the BIOS was F3 (i think), all i needed to do was update the BIOS tom F4, and it worked like it did beforehand...






have you tried enabling 'T2 Timings' that may help...
 
hi all know im getting other problem the cpu fan stops at start up in 30 secs when the bois goes and winxp

updated the bois to f6-8 and still does the same problem..........


but it keeps going if i press the reset button 3 times so what would the problem be ?
 
Another question for a noob:
I'm trying to set the Agp aperture size for my Asus V9999Gt.
I checked in the motherboard bios but I could not find how to change this parameter.
How could I do it?

really shouldn't say, because it has been mentioned...MANY TIMES...

get into the BIOS and press "CTRL + F1" and it will unlock a new menu item...
