I have this mobo and mbm5, speedfan, and hmonitor don't work (the latter two crash the system). Has anyone gotten something to work?j

I'm using SpeedFan on my K8NF-9.

Does it take a long time to start up? Are you using the smart fan thingy in the bios?

I have the antec power supply regulating the fan so maybe that's teh problem?

I did have some rather unusal issues, though I was able to work around it.
With Zone Alarm, or Norton Internet Security's firewall installed (running or otherwise) it would take quite awhile to start up.

Use nVidia's Firewall, or the WindowsXP integrated Firewall and it starts up immediately IF SpeedFan is not set to start up minimized, if I set it to start up minimized it goes back to taking a long time to start up.
For now, I'm just using nVidia's Firewall, and so long as I don't set SpeedFan to start up minimized it works fine.... not a big deal, as it's merely one click to minimize after bootup.

If you don't want to deal with that, you could always use Gigabyte's C.O.M, but that's not exactly convenient for a single system. Their EasyTune5 software should work fine though, it provides voltake/temp/fan monitoring along with it's overclocking facilities and you can set it to run quietly in the system tray on bootup.

Yeah the easytune thing is okay, but the interface is odd.

What do you think of the nVidia firewall? I haven't enabled it (though maybe I should check). I don't have any experience with integrated firewalls.

Relatively mediocre, but adequate for most home users I suppose.
It's a very basic firewall, covering ingoing and outgoing data and handles all the basics. Interface is pretty simplistic and not very configurable, you can't get much information on the status.

It's got a few flaws with respect to spyware/hacking apps named after common Windows components though.
Irritatingly enough, nVidia's dedicated networking engine on their integrated NIC is only operational when using their firewall, any other situation and it works strictly as a typical soft NIC relying on the processor to do all calculations.
