GA-G31M-ES2L rev 2.0 can't install any OS on it

I have successfully at one point installed windows 7 with this board at some point then after about 2 years of light use I am getting hard drive failure. I had changed the SATA cable each time and it seemed to fix the problem. Now when I tried to install linux or windows I get an error that indicates that no filesystem can be found to install the OS. I know the HD is fine because I've pulled the same HD to another working desktop and it works fine. I did the same with the RAM and Video card. I'm at a loss here. The only difference I think I may have installed a 32bit Windows 7 and now trying to install a 64bit windows 7 or Linux. I'm by no means new to building a new system but it's been a few years since a new build. I have since moved onto the G41 version of this board but I was wondering if anyone had experienced this with their G31 board with similar symptoms.

Google HDD SMART and have a look at status of the HDD. You'll need a app and a general idea of what you're looking at with SMART. Sometimes when drives begining to fail it can act as you describe.

Hope this helps.

The hard drive has no problems on a 2nd system so I don't think it's the HDD Smart as I have put in another working HDD and it showed the same problem.
