GA-965P-DS3... cannot enter BIOS (freezes)

i cannot enter the BIOS screen with my OCZ pc8500 ram... however i can with micron 256mb pc4200 stick(s) i've had this problem for a couple of weeks now. i have talked with TS for Gigabyte and OCZ. i just got my 2nd set of OCZ ram and still have the same problem. Gigabyte says there are known probs with OCZ and i should try others. OCZ says that there is no reason the ram should not work. I am out of the allowed window of time to return to buy.com since this fiasco began... so i'm not sure what to do now. i don't have money just to spend on ram and take losses here and there.


i have used 1 stick... both sticks... yellow slot... orange slot... clearing CMOS... putting micron ram in and setting voltage manually and then trying OCZ... F10 bios... F11 beta bios...etc. I am curious if anyone has any advice for my situation before i throw this thing out of a plane.

Sometimes happens with S3. Fan control is on by default and it starts spinning only after bios self test. Stock c2d coolers i?ve dealt with cannot spin as low as auto control wants them to (in a well ventilated case) generating whining noise without actually spinning at all. If you want to use bios fan control once you boot successfully set it up as ?legacy? ? its lowest is about 800 rpm.

Try clearing CMOS again via removing 3V battery for a minute. If still no light on a keyboard try to use usb one ? should not fail.

Had the same keyboard problem. Try unplugging the keyboard after it boots as far as it will go, then plugging it in again. Worked for me and after that no problem. The fan will not spin at startup if the smart fan control enabled. It will start but only after 20-30 seconds, stupid if you ask me. Some MSI board used to do that also. The CPU temp must reach some point before the fan starts. Don't watch, it will make you nervous.

thanks for the responses, guys. the only change to my situation is that my keyboard (USB) now stays lit up instead of just blinking once on startup. the PS/2 keyboard does not stay lit up. key strokes still do not register though on either. just a bump until this resolves.

I currently run a DS3 Rev 3.3, OCZ PC2-8500 (SLI edition), Corsair 620W, 7900GTO and I am not having any issues...
