I'm putting together my new rig and am having an issue with power staying on. I've just started building it, and have yet to see it POST.

Parts:

  • Motherboard: Gigabye GA-965P-DQ6
    CPU: Intel E6600
    PSU: Antec NEOHE 500
    Case: Antec Nine Hundred
Heatsink/CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Blue Orb II
    RAM:Corsair DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 (TWIN2X2048-6400C4)
    Video Card: MSI GeForce 7600GS

[1] To start with, I made sure the PSU was working ok, by plugging in a couple of the case fans and turning on. Result: works.

[2] Next step was to plug the PSU into the mobo, install the CPU and cooling fan, video card, RAM and power up. Result: CPU and case fans come on for a few seconds, then power off, then come back on and power off again, and repeat indefinitely.

[3] Recalling what the mobo FAQ said about possible grounding, I pull the mobo out of the case, and making sure it's pretty well insulated, power up. Result: Same as above.

[4] Thinking that perhaps the Blue Orb II heatsink/cooler is an issue, I replace it w/ the stock Intel fan. Result: same.

[5] Now worried that I fried something, I pull everything out and go back to step 1. Result: works.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated. Thx!

I've got the same problem -

using an antec trio 650 watt power supply -

the cpu fan is intermittent -

it's got to be the board
