GA-8SG677 cmos clearing issue

This is a bare board.

I am having a problem clearing the cmos; it seems I need to wait for hours or so with the psu unplugged and battery out, pressing the power button several times to discharge, to even have a shot at clearing the cmos. Is there a better way?

The board has solder points and I've stuck a copper paper clip on the relevant points to clear the damn thing. But with no success. Having to wait hours for the cmos to clear is a real pain in the ass.

Is there something I'm overlooking? Is there a grounding issue at play here? PLEASE ASSIST.
