Finally got this mobo to run with AGP 8X, and my Hercules 9700 Pro. When i first installed the 8INXP it would only ever run on 4X, albeit very well, but thanks to a thread i saw on this forum sometime ago, i decided to try another re-install.
Basically the thread i read on anandtech, advised to do a clean install in a somewhat different order than usual. I had been itching to try it out, so i went ahead and re-installed the lot as per instructions.
The install order i followed went as follows:
OS (XP)
SP1 & Updates.
Motherboard drivers.
Cat 3.1 drivers.
Control panel.
Disable fast writes.
Audigy.
DirectX9.
Fired her up with AGP set to auto and she worked. Ran the 3Dmark2003 benchark and she delivered a reasonable 4738 on defaults.
Have since tried out most of the games i have and all but one work.
All the following games run great: Mohaa, Spearhead, UT2003, Dronez, Morrowind and Battlefied 1942. The only game that hangs is Hitman 2. Why that should be i have no idea.
I then upped the BIOS setting to Top performance but that caused all the games to hang. They only appear to work on the BIOS default performance setting. Again not sure why. Just darn happy that i can get the AGP 8X running, although the performance difference is minimal against 4X but its a step forward.
Just my ramblings but thanks to this forum i got it going.
