I have a GA-7VAXP v1.1 with F14 BIOS. I'm currently running a 2800+ Barton
core 266FSB. I have 1gb of PC3200 DDR400 Corsair ram. I would like to
purchase a 3200+ Barton core 400FSB chip, but can't seem to find out if my
motherboard will support this. I emailed gigabyte with this question 2 weeks
ago but no reply. Can someone please help me out with any information?
Thanks,
Tom

Welcome to the boards! :)

According to thier website that MB only supports a 333MHz FSB and on their processor support list the fastest AMD you can use is what you have the 2800+.
Here is the support list: http://tw.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/CPUSupportList/CPUSupportList_GA-7VAXP.htm

The specs for that VIA chipset says it can use 400MHz RAM, but only a 333FSB CPU so I don't think you could buy a 3200+ and plug it in without it clocking the FSB back to 333MHz on you. Honestly though I don't think you'd notice any difference going from a 2800+ to a 3200+.

Best way to get a solid answer would be to call their tech support #, it's prob long distance but it shouldn't take longer then 10 mins to get the info.

Thank you very much for the reply. I called Gigabyte a few hours ago. The tech confirmed the GA-7VAXP supports 333FSB and not 400FSB. So it supports up to 3000+. And I think you are right, I probably wouldn't realize the difference. I guess I'll wait for the next generation of performance boost before I upgrade.
Thanks!
