GA-7VAXP sound

I'm experiencing static, but only when in a game (NASCAR 2002). CD's, MP3's. ect. sound great. I'm using the onboard sound, with my game controllers plugged into the mobo game port. I' guess maybe there's some conflict with the controller? Don't see any conflicts in device manager, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I'm using the dafault contoller address in BIOS, 201 I think. Any thoughts.
