hi all, my gigabyte ga-6bxd dual slot 1 just burned out, an IC on the board near the socket melted. What could have caused this? I'm thinking maybe my CPU caused it but im not sure.
Supposedly, the mobo can only support 1ghz and lower procs, but i put a 1.4ghz on a slocket into the board and it recognized fine, booted up with the correct speed and ran for a good week. but after turning it off for a little fan maintenance and turning it back on, i smell smoke and notice that an IC near the slot melted.
i know the chip has something to do with the CPU, maybe voltage reg? it is connected to another chip next to it and the same pair is seen in the exact same position near the second slot. i really would like to know what happened. hopefully somebody can shed some light.
also, i wanted to know if anyone here has had experience with what vid cards the AGP slot can accept. i know it has some problems providing adequate voltage. thanks all!
