Hi

I've got the following hardware and would need some advice regarding overclocking possibilities. Ga-6bxc slot1 mobo with the 44bx chipset. Celeron 500 socket370 with the converter card. S3 trio3d. Generic pc133 memory and the original soundblaster Live. I'd like to know if it is possible to overclock this board at all and how to go about it, I'm still a beginner. Also, can you give me a range of coolers for this chip.

Thanks

The Gigabyte GA-6BXC motherboard does give you a lot to work with in terms of overclocking. You choice for FSB are limited to 66, 75, 83, 100, 112, 133.

I just purchased a used 6BXC motherboard and plan on running a P3 500mhz cpu with a S3 trio3d PCI video and 256mb Micron PC133 cas3 ECC. Planning on giving this setup to my father-in-law or sister-in-law.

Hi

Thank for replying to my thread. Should there be any issues with my hardware such as the s3 card and the sblive as far as overclocking goes?

Thanks

There's not much overclocking potential in the C500, regardless of the motherboard or HS/fan combo. For practical purposes, I expect that the best you will do is FSB of 75MHz, yielding processor speed of around 570MHz. You will likely have problems with your PCI devices even if the processor can manage at 83MHz, which I doubt. Not a good processor for overclocking. If you can find a C667, stick it to a MSI slocket and it will run at 1000MHz. C800 and faster do even better, but you need RAM better than PC100 for them to overclock reliably.

Sell the Celery! It will not OC and usable amount.

That board will run a 566@850 Celeron II using a good slotket and a CII 1000 would be an ideal upgrade for that board. There are other possibilities as well.

You want to run the board at 100mhz FSB and not OC it any higher. That is what causes the problems you are hinting at.
