I have an OCZ extreme 600w PS, and its listed as having 4 12v rails at 18amps each.

I was reading the the 8800GTX requires the 12v to have 30amps. Now is that 30 amps in one rail or 30amps total?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I don't know much about powersupplies. Am I buying a new power supply?

The GTX requires 2 6 pin power connectors. Run them off of different rails and you'll be fine.

to add to what's been said, it's 30amps on the +12V rail(s) in TOTAL and that's a "safe" overestimate, which means with a quality PSU, you could get away with a bit less. Moreover, for PSU's with multiple +12V rails, the "total" current available is usually NOT just the sum of the current available on each rail. instead, the max wattage available to the +12V is often listed and you can divide that by 12 to get the number of amps available.

example: this Antec PSU has three 12V rails @ 18A each with 504W available for the +12V total. 504/12 = 42A. Note that this does NOT equal 54A, the sum of the three 18A rails...

Thanks for pointing that out!! That's a good tip.

What is really going to get you is if you want to run 8800's in sli down the road. That requires a beast of a power supply.

I've got that covered - my PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 has 60 amps on the 12 volt - all on a single rail.
