Imag - You'll be looking at a Single Chip g800 Marvel for those needs. Either way, do you guys think that went to tile based rendering? I think that Carmack wouldn't have been as stunned if they did, because it has already been done. He said that they "CAME UP WITH" a way to end memory bandwidth problems... Thoughts?

If I spent more time gaming, I'd look at the NV20 in the fall, but since I spent more time in 2D world, I'll be looking at G800 when it ships (Sept would be perfect), cuz I've read a bunch of thread about suky GeForce2 2D perf.

Have both a V3-2K + a G400 (32MB version) in the house. I was surprised how well the G400 looks. Matrox knows how to put all them 2D filters on their cards that make 2D pretty.

i had a g400 16mb for a while. Man was that 2d quality good. My v6800 isn't that good and even has a higher speed ramdac. Matrox has the best 2d bar none, and had this geforce not been given to me as a gift i would be waiting for a g800 ..

Why is everybody so concern with the drivers from Matrox? I know the G200 was bad, but with the G400 Matrox has really been great.

As for the G800... i'm so disillusioned. How many cycles have they missed now? both the Geforce and GF2? And now it's supposed to be out in Sept? We'll see. I've held off getting a card for 4 months because i thought the G450 would be something worthy. I have the G400 and LOVE it, but i think it's time to move on if they dont' release something soon. Radeon is my current choice, but i'll wait a few weeks and see how the driver issue is with the Radeon.

I agree with MoralPanic about the drivers. Actually, the G200 drivers didn't suck too bad considering at its release it wasn't meant to do any 3d gaming. :p

The G400 drivers are outstanding, I have never had a problem with them and the are rock stable. The BETA, PREPRODUCTION drivers are what most people base the drivers on for Matrox. The BETA drivers for the G400...the ones reviewers got...v4.13, were NOT the shipping ones. The shipping ones were v5.17. Over 1 full version ahead, if you will. :) So, the shipping drivers were even great, contrary to popular belief.

I am going to wait for the G800, it should really kick some ass, and even if it isn't the speed king (which actually seems quite possible this round), it has great picture quality (both 2d and 3d) and I spend more time in 2d land than 3d. :)
