G70 Vs R520 who is the overall winner from what we know so far, however little that might be

But I am worried that ATi seems to be demoing R520 primarily as a H.264 decoder. Who gives a fvck? I want to see 3D performance!

Well, the fact that nvidia is sooo tight lipped about the G70 leads me to believe that they are either creating the facade of their card being much better than the leaked specs. But then again, why would they do this if not to make ATI all that much more cautious and hold back their R520.

OR

The G70 is nowhere near the performance that nvidia thought it would be and is keeping that under wraps until they can "fix 'er up". So, bottom line.

NOBODY KNOWS. Even if they say they do. Or even think they do. They don't.

So this thread should be published by the inquirer when its finished because that is all it will be worth.

I have heard along the lines that the G70 is going to have 24pix pipes and 8 vertex pipes, and the R520 is going have a straight 32 pix pipes, but then again, this is just rumers that i have heard ..

One has to wonder why ATI is bringing out a part that sells for 550 bucks so close to Nvidia shipping out the G70?

From a business perspective one has to start wondering if the R520 is having manufacturing problems or the performance is nowhere near where they need it to be to compete with the G70.

It just doesnt make that much sense to be bringing out a part that costs that much if you are just about to ship a new generation that will be at the same price point.

Speaking of inquirer threads, here is a new one: Nvidia starts working on SLI 2
They rabbit on about nVidia finding a way to provide more PCI-e lanes. Sounds like the nForce4 Pro chipset if you ask me, which is featured on the Tyan dual opteron motherboard and basically has a second northbridge providing more lanes - forget exactly how many more, but enough for each PCI-e graphics slot to have a full 16 lanes each.

I was just saying expect a flamewar, when the fanboys see this thread not much will said, I hate flamewars I was just saying expect one. As to what you said about the rumors you heard thats about all any us know at this point. So as I said before this is a useless topic.

Yeah i have seen a thread with regards to a Gigabyte board that has used the same idea for an intel board (Nforce 4 sli for intel), and they used the AMD NF4 SLI chipset to give the extra 16 lanes alongside the Intel chipset (weird no active cooling just a heatsink with two of them next to each other ). But it doesn't stop there they ended up going one step further and put four 16x PCI-e slots on the mobo, so that is literaly SLI x2 ... four GFX cards WOW :shocked: ...

It feels like this new generation from ATI could make or break ATI.

It will finally be a move from the R300 based architecture, supposedly, and will tell the world that they aren't a one-architecture wonder.

Delaying definitely seems bad, but it also seems like they have little to worry about to have it delayed for a few months after Nvidia's release.

Nvidia may change it's specs to match the later release of ATI.

But all in all I expect a more even ground between the two.

stop trolling, excuse me!!!! .. i hardly ever visit the Video forum, and to be fair couldnt be bothered to search, i have seen the news on Anandtech's front page (G70 etc) and was interested into what the people would comment on in here, i find this topic very interesting as i am sure alot of other people do as well, i am very against trolling or flaming .. geez how did you take this the wrong way ???

And yes in OT .. i did ask the question just out of pure interest ..is there a problem with that, obviously i have not been here as long as others so i do not know, when asking questions like these is deemed as trolling .. i hope you take this back ..
