G7....great mouse, annoying loss

i upgraded from a MX510 to a G7 and im loving it loads

few annoyances though.

with my 510, the forward and back buttons worked on all IE windows, and windows explorer and firefox, and could be mapped in games.

also the scroll wheel on the 510 could be mapped as button as well (since you could press it) and i used it for reloading. and in FF it used to open links in new tabs automatically..which i liked.

the G7 + the software however has lost all this. the back button works in IE and WE but not FF. it cant be mapped in games, and nor can the scroll wheel, which doesnt work for anything when you click except auto scroll. and yes ive tried remapping buttons in the set point software,

i even gave the middle button the keyboard shortcut for "new tab" and it still didnt work

In the drivers you can specify the back button to map to a keystroke. Just put in Alt+Left Arrow, and you hvae a back button in firefox. Alternativley, dont install the drivers, I dont have them installed right now and it works fine. The DPI settings and all that stuff still works, just you dont get a warning when the battery dies, unless you look on the mouse.

You are incorrect about the back button in FF, I personally use the G5 in FF and the back button works fine with no tweaking. Also the Scroll button middle click works fine anywhere you want to use it.

The one thing I can think of that might be a problem, is you might need to set the software to "use Set Point Impementation" So that set point (logitech's software) will be the thing controlling the mouse buttons.

To answer Tuteja1986: The g5 kicks the MX518's butt all over the place because it isn't using interpolation to get the 2000DPI like the MX518 is using to get 1600DPI. Much better sensor in the G5.

Depends where you live. Here in Canada cheapest MX518 I've seen was 40 bucks. This week a couple nationwide chains are selling G5 for 50 which is worth the difference IMHO.

I have owned all : Logitech MX500 , MX510 , MX518 , MX700 , MX1000 , G5 , G7

I can tell you know that G5 was a buggy mouse and MX518 was best overall :)

DPI crap is max hyping ... anything over 1000DPI isn't really noticable...

I don't care what mice you have owned, and the fact that you HAVE owned so many just shows you are picky and/or have to much money and don't know what to do with it. I have similarly owned the 510, 1000 and currently own the G5. The G5 was the best one out of them.

To the comment about nothing over 1000 DPI being noticable. That is one of the stupidest comments I have ever heard. One, it is exrememly noticeable, ever trying using those useful little buttons on your MX518 to change the DPI settings? you can't tell me you don't notice that. Also, if nothing over 1000 is noticeable, then why is the 1600 DPI mouse you like so much, so great?

LOL, I dont care about you guys bickering but I have had the MX518 and the MX1000, I personally like the 1000 better, if it had a DPI setting I think it could be the greatest mouse in the history of mouses (mice?)
