G620 ($56) vs G550 ($60)

Is the only difference the 620 has 3MB of L2 while the 550 has 2MB?

I'd assume the 620 is the better buy here, unless I'm missing something else?

Also does anyone know of any good deals currently on cheap arrooh 1155 boards?

The difference is not huge. I am perfectly content with my G540, for example. However, they are both usually only a few dollars apart, anyway. This, is a good buy. A mobo of your choice 😛

i3 would be the next rational step.

Assuming that you're building it for a less important purpose or users who aren't too bothered with performance, go with the cheaper option, whichever it may be. Originally I wanted a Celeron G530 for the PC that I built for my parents but went with a Pentium G620 instead as the Celeron G530 was out of stock.

I don't think anyone would notice the performance difference if you went with either, adding a SSD will, which is the next step I'm taking with my parent's PC. 😉

I replaced a G620 with a G530, mounted on an AsRock Z77 Pro4-M motherboard, and honestly, cannot tell the difference at all.
